Scarsdale is a village in Westchester County, New York, United States. The village has an area of 6.6 square miles and a total population of 17,886. Scarsdale consists of five neighborhoods; Edgewood, Fox Meadow, Greenacres, Heathcote and Quaker Ridge. Caleb Heathcote of Scarsdale, Derbyshire, England is an important historical figure in this community. He came from England and played a key role in the early development of the community. Scarsdale officially became a town on March 7, 1788. It wasn’t until 1915 that Scarsdale was incorporated as a village. As time passed the community grew. Scarsdale High School and Greenacres Elementary built in 1917 were two of the first schools. At present day statistically Scarsdale is an appealing place to live. The average house value, household income and population with higher education is above the state average while the unemployment rate is significantly below state average. Interestingly Scarsdale is home to the singer/actress Liza Minnelli who attended Scarsdale High School. Linda McCartney, wife of the famous Paul McCartney (Beatles), was also a Scarsdale Resident.

Residents looking for higher education are to lucky to have easy access to nearby colleges and universities. SUNY College at Purchase, Iona College, Mercy College-Main Campus, The College of New Rochelle, SUNY Westchester Community College, Pace University-Pleasantville, Briarcliff and Manhattan College are all within only 11 miles. These are all great options. One notable institute is the Iona College which was rated “Best Northeastern Colleges 2008,” by the Princeton Reviews. It has an impressive 13 to one student to faculty ratio and a total student enrollment of 4282. Various studies are offered in the school of arts and science, Hagan School of Business and Professional Studies Program. Local elementary, middle and high school students are served by the Scarsdale Union Free School District. Each of the five neighborhoods is conveniently home to one elementary school. Public schools in this district include Scarsdale Senior High School (1057 Post Rd), Edgemont Junior-Senior High School (200 White Oak Ln), Scarsdale Middle School (134 Mamaroneck Rd), Greenvale School, Fox Meadow School, Seely Place School, Quaker Ridge School, Greenville School, Edgewood School, Greenacres School and Heathcote School.
Scarsdale has an abundance of recreational opportunities. There are a variety of parks great for getting active outdoors some of which include Harwood Park, George Field Park and Saxon Woods Park. Throughout the villages there are various facilities including pools, tennis courts as well as athletic fields. Saxon Woods Park located on Mamaroneck Ave White Plains, spans over 700 acres and is a great place to take the family. It offers picnic areas, an 18 hole miniature golf course, playground and pool. Another great way to spend the day is at the Weinberg Nature center. It is located at 455 Mamaroneck Rd and offers fun informative activities for all ages. Here visitors can check out the wide variety of animals and birds, visit the Trailside Nature Museum, go on the 8-mile trail or learn about the Lenape and Iroquois tribes at the Native American Village. Another notable location is the Scarsdale Post Office. It is located on Chase Road and is on the National Register of Historic Places. For the golf enthusiasts there are a number of great courses in the village. The Saxon Woods Golf Course is an 18 hole course opened in 1931 known by many as the county’s second most challenging course. Other locations include the Fenway Golf Club and the Quaker Ridge Golf Club.
